Band 8 is for students who have had at least 1 year on their instrument. This course runs all year alternating with the elective courses (sewing, cooking, computers etc.) We will be doing more challenging music and building on the skills you have acquired in the years previous.
Students will have the opportunity to attend the trip to the Whistler Con Brio Music Festival, April 24-27th 2014 with the Tour Band. Students who are in Tour Band will be expected to perform with both bands in the festival. Please look at the important dates tab to get information about upcoming events and due dates.
Below are YouTube videos of some of the pieces we are currently playing. Please take the time to listen to them so you know what they sound like. If you are able to, try to play along with them to see if you can keep up. This will give you an idea of what you need to work on, and test your skills of playing with a recording, and not with a live band.

PLAYING OPPORTUNITY!
BCMEA Honour Band: The BCMEA Honour Band is open to all students from grades 8-12. This is a fantastic opportunity where you audition against other high school students from across the province. All you need to do is to learn the material on your instrument, and record your audition. I have all the necessary equipment to record at school, so once you have learned the music, we will set up a time to record. This is a fantastic opportunity and you get to play with musicians from all over BC. The rehearsal dates and performance dates are usually late October and take place at the BC Music Educators Conference in Richmond, at the River Rock Hotel. Auditions won't happen until late March, but if you are interested, start learning your parts. Here is the website, where you can find all the information, http://bctf.ca/BCMEA/HonEns2013.html. It says 2013, but the audition material will be the same. All you have to do is scroll down, and find your instrument, print off the music and start learning it. If you need any help, please ask myself or Mrs. Baumann, and we would be happy to sit with you to go over the parts.
